Albert Crescent Pedestrianisation Feasibility Study

The Council’s Area Regeneration team has recently completed a draft Town Centre Framework for Chingford Mount Town Centre, which provides a high-level framework with an overarching public realm strategy and an action plan of short-term interventions to bring vibrancy to the town centre and support its post-covid-19 economic recovery.

Key aims of the framework are to help reconnect residents with their High Street and support local businesses and community organisations to grow and thrive in years to come. Enhancements of the public realm in the town centre are seen as a key part in achieving these aims.

Albert Crescent is a key meeting point and public space and is generally considered to be the focal point of the Town Centre. It is currently underperforming and is challenged by repeated incidents of anti-social behaviour contributing to a negative perception of the town centre overall.

Pedestrianisation of Albert Crescent has been identified as the main stepping-stone to unlocking the Town Centre’s potential.

The Council is currently working on this feasibility study to divert the bus routes and relocate the bus stands that are currently in Albert Crescent while ensuring bus accessibility and interchange is maintained. This study is also reviewing the existing strategic cycle network for Chingford Mount and how it connects to the existing network.
